Adaptive Green and Gold Blazer
What started as an ordinary men's suit jacket purchased from a thrift store was transformed into an adaptive woman’s blazer. This jacket was completely reconstructed to fit a feminine seated figure. The jacket was shortened approximately 6 inches to accommodate a seated waist; all of the pockets were adjusted to fit the new silhouette more proportionally. The beautiful gold buttons were made decorative by hand sewing them directly onto the closed buttonholes so that snaps could be installed underneath for easy access. On the back of the blazer, a large vent was made to prevent bunching on the wheelchairs backrest as well as to help that area receive more airflow. At the nape of the neck in the center back area a matching easy magnetic zipper from AnkhGear with a large gold ring zipper pull was installed. These features make it easier for someone who may need help from a care person to get dressed if their arms have limited mobility. The round zipper pull and magnetic zipper acknowledges that caregivers also sometimes experience their own disabilities that may leave them with limited strength or pain in their hands.
